An Invitation to Rediscover the Heart of the Matter: God’s love and truth

7 Jun

Sometimes it is the oldest and most familiar things of all that we overlook or think we know everything about. How often do we miss the truth because it seems so everyday? Or maybe we cannot see it because the truth has something to tell us that we do not want to hear. So often, we cannot see the truth because those who say that they have the truth use it like a weapon.

At The Heart of the Matter, we think there is an old truth that we are missing: the truth of the Catholic Church. That truth is that God is love, that God became human for us, died for us and rose for us, and that God calls us into a communion with Him that we call the Church. We know that so often Catholics fail to live as God’s ministers of love, we know that sometimes the Good News feels like old news, and we understand that love and truth sometimes means making sacrifices that are hard or unpopular. But we believe faith in God, Jesus, and God’s Church and her Sacraments is the single best thing in the world.

Come and reconsider the Catholic Church with us. Engage and respond with us in this publication, on our website (www.  .com), and in other forums. Who are we? We are Catholic young adults, living and working in the Twin Cities in various stages in our lives and our search for God. Some of us are students, social workers, and businesspeople. Others are parents, teachers, and laborers. All of us want to join in a conversation with you about the heart of the matter: God’s love and truth. Join us in this conversation. Participate in our meetings, think and read about topics such as philosophy, a local band, theology, organic food, spirituality, or social justice. Meet us at churches, beer festivals, art galleries, concerts, or charities. Catholicism is culturally and spiritually rich beyond expression; share this richness with us.

Come and rediscover the Catholic faith, whether you were raised in it or not. This is a group journey: we want to learn from you and teach you. Together, we will experience the truth anew. The Church is a big and diverse body; we want your voices and perspective to enrich our communion. We look forward to meeting you and learning from you all over the Twin Cities. So talk to us, drink with us, read our paper, check out our website, come to Mass with us. Rediscover the Catholic Church.
